There are many preventative heartworm medications available for both dogs and cats. One of the leading brands is Interceptor. They produce 'Flavor Tabs' which the makers advise are loved by 95% of dogs! They are given as a meaty beef flavoured treat to dogs on a monthly basis to prevent heartworm disease, hookworm, roundworm and whipworm.

Interceptor Heartworm Pills are a complete de-worming monthly treatment for dogs from 4 weeks of age (2lb and over). As puppies are highly at risk of complications from intestinal parasites this makes a very satisfactory way of treating them and ensuring a healthy heartworm free future too.

This heartworm med uses Milbemyclin Oxine to destroy any worms which have presented themselves during the 30 days prior to treatment. This means Interceptor should be first used within 30 days of the dogs first exposure to mosquitoes. Prior to commencing preventative treatment the dog should be given a blood test by your vet to confirm he or she is not already suffering from the disease.

Although it is always advisable to check with your vet before giving any pet meds to pregnant or nursing bitches, this product is a preferred method of keeping such animals safe from Heartworm. Both pregnant and nursing bitches have been given dosages up to 25 times that recommended with no long-term problems for either bitch or puppies.

Coming in four different doses ranging from dogs of 2lb to 100lb. Dogs larger than this will need a combination of tabs equivalent to their weight.
